An estimated 1500 people came out to Heartspring April 10 to help make the 2010 Autism CARE Walk an overwhelming success. From year one, the primary goal of the CARE Walk has been to increase awareness of autism spectrum disorders while raising funds for Heartspring’s CARE Program. Each and every participant walked for a cause that is near and dear to their heart as evidenced by the wonderful stories shared and the very personal connections made throughout the day. While the number of individuals diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder is on the rise, the CARE Walk provides an opportunity for people to gather, share stories, have fun and make a huge difference for so many families.
The funds raised at the Autism CARE Walk are used to support the Heartspring CARE program. The CARE program offers a variety of services to children and families affected by autism spectrum disorder. Each year the CARE program hosts CAMP SStar, a week long camp for children with ASD. The CARE program also offers Social Stars social groups throughout the year, as well as consultation services. In January 2008, The United Nations General Assembly unanimously declared April 2 as World Autism Awareness Day to highlight the need to help improve the lives of children and adults diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder. As the excitement of this year’s walk winds down, we are already gearing up for next year when the CARE Walk will share the same date as World Autism Awareness Day: Saturday, April 2, 2011. As we gather together to share a common passion and increase awareness, others around the world will be doing the same! Mark your calendars now for CARE Walk 2011 and join us, as well as others around the world, as we walk to make a difference in the lives of individuals and families living with autism.
The next CARE Walk will take place on April 2, 2011!
