| Hi. My name is Londan and I am 7 years old. I am the grandson of Willie & Linda Kendrick and the son of Robert Sabater & Tamika Mayhew. I have 3 sisters and 1 brother. I was almost 4 years old before I learned to talk. My main forms of communication before then were yelling, crying, or having a "melt down". The Speech therapists at Heartspring taught me to communicate first with pictures and then with words and pictures. Now I am in regular 1st grade reading with my 1st grade friends and bringing home 90's and 100%'s on my weekly assessments! Thanks to my Occupational therapist, I can now button the buttons on my shirt and pants, zip and unzip my coat and pants, dress myself completely and I am learning to tie shoes. I can also tell you about circles, squares, rectangles, hexagons and other shapes. My Physical therapist works with me on catching balls, jumping rope and riding my bicycle. I cam go up and down stairs using alternating feet just fine now. My Water therapist works with me on improving my core strength, muscle tone, breathing and getting my face wet--I can swim the length of a big pool 4 times all by myself. This has helped my endurance and breathing a lot!! I really enjoy the Computer Camp Miss Connie has in the summertime for kids with autism ('cause I LOVE video games and computers) and am really looking forward to Star Scouts with my friends at Heartspring. My mom & dad, grandma and grandpa are sooooo proud of me!!! Why do I care? Because I want all of my friends with autism to get better, too! |
